Mission & The Need

Mission: Women’s Education Project helps young women of limited means discover their unlimited potential to succeed in college and careers and improve their lives, families, and communities.

The Need: WEP’s focus  is young women whose families struggle to survive on less than $1-2 a day.  They come from overcrowded homes where malnourishment, illness and debt are the norm. Their families are unable to provide the resources or support required to pursue higher education - tenth grade through college.

The Problem. Uneducated women are more likely to:

  • lose career ambitions and work in low-paying, unsafe jobs
  • marry before the age of 18 and have uneducated, malnourished children
  • lack a voice in their family and community
  • remain in poverty
The Potential. Educated women are more likely to:
  • be healthier
  • access employment with the opportunities for advancement
  • travel independently
  • participate in community decisions – look for leadership positions
  • marry after the age of 21
  • have fewer and healthier children
  • better manage family finances and spend income on medicine, immunizations, nutritious food and education
  • leave poverty forever
