Hello WEP!

Now my 2nd mid-exams are over. I am a Pharm D (Doctor of pharmacy) student. It is recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). After the completion of this course one can go for specialization i.e, Y1 & Y2 in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Pediatrics or Gynecology.

I always dreamt of a profession which would help me not only support my family but also serve the society and by becoming a pharm d doctor, I am getting such opportunity. Although I had interest in many subjects yet I feel drawn towards a health care oriented career, seeing the need for health services in my country. As a health care professional I aim to improve the quality of life of the patient, in the best way possible, in a collective effort along with the health care team.

I am so grateful to Womens Education Project (WEP) for providing me the scholarship which is being helpful in my educational expenses and clearing loans taken for the purpose as it was being difficult to maintain, from my father’s income, all the expenses of four children in my family.

I am in need of financial support to continue with my studies for which I found WEP as a RAY OF HOPE. This gave me an encouragement in the long run to achieve my career goal.

I really do appreciate WEP i.e. designed for a good cause. And me and my family are very thankful to WEP for helping me and girls like me to achieve our career goals with confidence.

WEP students became reporters for the day! Here’s what one girl, a student of our Bangalore program, discovered after her interview with Sagaya Mary, housewife and snack seller: “Hi. I am Alisha and I interviewed Sagaya Mary who is a housewife. Her husband is a daily wager and earns 2500/- ($50) per month depending on the availability of work. I asked Sagaya Mary as to how she is managing the family with 2500/- ($50) to take care of 3 children and also paying rent. Sagaya Mary said few days she was selling snacks in the evening time to meet the expenses of the house. Two of her children are studying in Hope School where as she spends very little on their studies. But children study excellently. They always score A+ grade. She is happy with whatever she wants.”

“I am doing my 6th standard. After I come to WEP-Sudar I study well, and also try to speak in English – Rishi anna taught karate – tailoring teacher taught me Maths. All WEP-Sudar sisters assisted me in my academic subjects. I got second prize in running race conducted by our school. Now also I couldn’t believe that I got prize in running race. Hey see my medal, I am happy now..” we’re happy now too!
